The Author

Alexander DeMarcus was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1960. He  is currently an international  martial arts champion and instructor certified through Kukki Won, the Tae Kwon Do Federation Headquarters in Korea, where he presently holds a 1st Dan (black belt) in Tae Kwon Do. He was also an honor student at Northwood University, where he studied business management and made the deans list numerous times.  

Mr. DeMarcus also served twelve years in the US Army field bands, where he sat as lead trumpeter and principle oboist for both the jazz and concert bands, respectively. He spent nine months, of his twelve year military career, in combat, where he successfully participated in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. After leaving the military, he took a temporary position as principle trumpeter with the DWSO (Detroit Wind Symphony Orchestra). Mr. DeMarcus is a musical author, whose album Late Bloomer received its certification from the U.S. Library of Congress after being published in 2001.

As a performer with over 28 years of entertaining experience, Mr. DeMarcus has had the pleasure of traveling to many countries, most of which were travels to Europe and Asia. As an accomplished recording artist, he has literally performed around the world, yet at the present, he mainly performs throughout the Midwestern states and locally in the greater Detroit area. 
      His CD Late Bloomer has sold more than 23,000 copies. His album was published under his stage name Diamond Steele. Mr. DeMarcus also teaches music theory of both the jazz and classical genre in his spare time as well as an active member of the Michigan Musician’s Union.
      In preparation for writing his novel, The Whipping Man Mr. DeMarcus thoroughly researched the mystery/thriller novel industry; including reading two books each from his top five authors in the mystery/thriller genres in the past year. In addition, to studying criminal law at Central Texas College, Mr. DeMarcus studied the actions of law enforcement agencies and memorized their titles and ranks. He also learned police procedures first hand from several police friends of his, in order to try to capture the atmosphere of the typical precinct.
